Encourage your residents to use the stairs

Promote stair use to help save elevator energy use and promote resident health.  Stair use can be increased by ensuring stair access, posting stair-promoting signs at elevator areas on each floor, and making the stairs more pleasant (e.g., using brightly colored paints, putting in non-combustible art and music) and visible (e.g., having fire-rated glass on stair doors).  Free "Burn Calories, Not Electricity.  Take the Stairs!" signs are available by calling 311.  The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website also has good suggestions for improving your stairs and promoting stair use:
